Cllr. Sebert Graham
Oakridge and Castlefield
I migrated from Jamaica in 1960 and I lived in London for the first 6 years of being in the United Kingdom. In 1973 I moved to High Wycombe and since then it has become my home. My 3 grown-up children all attended schools in High Wycombe and are still residents of the area.
My passion for politics really arose during the years of Hugh Gaitskill and Harold Wilson, under their leadership most people from African-Caribbean community found the Labour Party to be their preferred choice, because the Labour Party believes in equality, justice and fair play, among all its other qualities, but above all in our National Health Service which if we are not careful the Conservatives will destroy. We cannot and must not allow this to happen on our watch.
I am proud to be a member of the Labour Party. I have seen the good times and the bad times, but as our base is broad, what we must never do is to give on up our beliefs.
We have the County Councils Election coming up in May. Let us all get out there in large numbers and show the people that we are a strong and united party. The Labour Party is the only party that can bring about the changes that we all want, such as reversing the cuts in public spending, social care, shortage of prison officers etc. These are only a few reasons why we cannot afford to be complacent. If there is a time that we need Labour councillors at County Hall, it is now.
