Cllr. Rafiq Raja
Leader of the Labour Group
I have grown up in High Wycombe and have lived in the Bowerdean ward since 1977. My children have been born and brought up here. I understand the issues facing the people in the ward, from badly maintained roads and footpaths to lack of any amenities as well as the issues parents face in trying to place their children in the school of their choice.
I was honoured and privileged to be elected Leader of the Labour Group of Councillors after the District Council Elections in May 2015. I and my fellow colleagues continue to fully apply ourselves to serve on various committees and continue to scrutinize the work of the majority Conservative Group; highlighting issues which matter to the ordinary people of High Wycombe.
WDC has submitted a proposal to the government to have two unitary authorities in Bucks following from the need to modernise local government in Buckinghamshire. We will try to ensure that the Council takes all necessary steps to ensure that the new set up is capable of delivering the core services to the local residents, including proper investment in housing and infrastructure for an efficient delivery of the core services; needed to support the wellbeing of the people of the District, given that there is a projected growth in population.
